The Visitors

Rambunctious, the kids were driving her crazy at the thought of going away, far away.  It had been longer than she could honestly remember, when she even thought of that place.  Maybe she shouldn’t have.  Maybe she should have just kept those memories to herself, but she couldn’t resist dancing and humming songs that weren’t in English, so of course Mary’s children pestered her to learn more about this land she spoke so mysteriously about.  Leave it to them, to pick up on the joy that it brought to her.  But, as kids will be kids, they should have known not to pay mind to her promises that they would all travel there soon.  Only when it was time to leave to go back to the psychiatric ward, did the children remember that she is delusional.  The three children hugged her and said, “See you next week!”. and Mary left for the third floor with her aid.

Dear Friends,

.

When it comes right down to it, you’ve got to get yourself to move, both physically and mentally if you wish to gain more knowledge about the world, your community… yourself!

.

No, one person, is born with this.  It is not innate to being human, and it is most certainly not a gift  that someone presents to you.  To get through this life. without exercising or training the body, mind and spirit, you are dead, numb and worthless to the people around you, people you know and care about, and to yourself.

.

No, one person, can expect that things will just fall into place – not when it comes right down to lessons, for they must be learned through experience, and failing, before you can say that you have become enlightened, or that you’re life is enriched.

.

People need people.  To commiserate with, to converse with, to feel and share what life offers.  You need Me and I, you.  What is the legacy you were meant to leave for this world?  What can you teach a toddler, a teen, your grandfather?  Will they have learned those important lessons, if you were gone now?

.

Questions for yourself and questioning others; asking Why, What for, and How are what gives the human condition it’s strength, it gives us our differences compared with the other creatures we share this earth with.  We ponder such things because we can!  We learn from our mistakes, because we do!  We are organisms who Need comfort from one another and expect nothing less than that in return.  And because we exercise such rites of passage throughout our lifetime, we can choose to dismiss things that don’t fit our plans, or embrace those which do.

.

Thank you for all that you have shown me, and you’re welcome for the sincerity I have for you.

.

A Humble Job

She trained very hard. The picture books didn’t matter much, as she found that actually doing it was what drummed the how to’s and what for’s in her head. Though it was not the glamourous job she envisioned, it was necessary work to someone, and she liked feeling needed and worthy. So what if she was never told face to face on the differences she made, she did not hear that her work was substandard and poorly done, and that was good enough for her.

.

I am talking about a working-girl. She liked the coziness of a single bed, but you don’t know the care she placed on herself, to make sure that even a single bed can be inviting to slip into after a tough day of hearing speaker’s speak or pitch-men talking in circles.about their wares and how good they perform.

No, I’m simply telling you that she was a soft-spoken woman of little words, who tended to the task at hand, and always had a smile for the businessmen and tourists. She often sang songs in her native language, reminiscing really, but she was happy to be free in this land of opportunity. She may likely be scrubbing floors or dishing out slop on a plate, but she has her pride and settled for a job as a humble housekeeper in a hotel. Learning English will come in time, but for the time being, she leaves a mint on the pillowcase and says, “Magandang araw” * when they check out.
