He dropped to his knees and kissed the ground. Then the ground fell.
That’s how he began every show.
Six shows a week.
Fourty-six weeks a year.
He did this for seven years,
when it happened.
The ground fell.
As he went down
He was trying to think of a comeback line
And imaging a cord, not unlike a bungee
but it was really, really long
so he could reach China.
Then he remembered a friend
who said the same thing when he was playing in the dirt…
We had odd imaginations when we were younger.
was directly below the X-spot on the ground
and that you can dig to get there.
Then he thought
that was a strange thing to think of
as he was still falling,
’cause the ground fell.
Then his ten minutes were up.
I never said he was funny.
