An Old Carnival Prize Named Repentance

the keystone of the doorway
she hangs
and keeps safe, secrets
for those who speak
whispering tones, sorrows
to leave behind

the keystone of the doorway
she watches
and keeps safe, lies
for those who empty themselves
of pride

to stand before
the last of the graces
praying for mercy

forgiveness
is boundless

in the search to find
one
who will listen
as she does
hung on the keystone of the doorway

  1. Wow. I just returned from 12 days in Italy…and saw many basilicas, churches, and architecturally remarkable city squares. You are so right. Beautiful image here. -Sue

  2. The title, too. Perfecto. -Sue

  3. Excellent poem…and thought provoking.

  4. Thank you, Charles U Malene. I like writing with something to stir me up and this nympth/cherub brought me back in time, when people put statues and icons on display in their homes. But as usual, things aren’t what they seem!
